So you want to sell you art online. One key way to selling art online is making sure your images are good. I have seen so many people try to sell their art work, but the photos they share are not helping them. In fact they could be hurting themselves and not know it. It’s extremely important to make sure your images are as perfect as you can make them. Nowadays it’s so much easier to take pictures and post your art online. You can use a cell phone or a regular camera.

These are my tips on how to prepare your files for sharing your art online.

1 - Ensure the lighting is good, not too bright and not too dark.

2 - If possible take pictures of your art in natural light outside.

3 - Get a light kit if you live in an area where it is too dark.

4 - Scan your art. You can do this professionally, which can be expensive. Or at home with your own scanner. Do this at a high resolution of at least 300dpi. If needed, do it in sections and then paste together using a program like Photoshop.

5 - Note that most sites want files at 72dpi, but if you want to make products on POD (Print on Demand) sites your images need to be larger with most requiring 300dpi.

6 - Crop your images. Make sure you don’t have any background in the picture, even if it means cutting some of your painting off.

7 - Use an editing tool like Photoshop to ensure images are perfect.

8 - When ready to post online check the particular websites file dimension requirements. Each site is different.

If you want to sell your art online you must make sure that your images are up to scratch and give customers pictures that best represent your art work. Failing to do this could lead to returns.
